About Us
Rising Sun M. B. Church began as a mission in March, 1947 in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Evans. The members included: Mr. & Mrs. Evans, Mr. & Mrs. Young Mr. Avery Powell, Sr., Bro. Ike Robinson (1st Deacon), Mrs. Bertha (King) Perry and her three children: Vivian, Gathon, and Mark.
Rev. & Mrs. Williams returned to their home in Mississippi, upon which Rev. Cornelius Jackson was called to be Pastor of what would be known as Rising Sun M. B. Church. In May 1947 a giant leap of faith was made when the members rented 615 S. Jefferson St. for services. There upon, Rev. John H. Rogers, the Pastor of Morning Star, organized Rising Sun M. B. Church. Services were also conducted at 604 N.C. Adams and 820 N.E. Adams as the Lord multiplied his church weekly.
Meanwhile, in November 1978, Rev. John L. Gibson accepted the call of Pastor at Rising Sun M.B. Church.
On June 17, 1991 the Lord blessed Rising Sun, as we began construction on a 16,000- square-foot-, 800 seat facility. With great anticipation, we held a prayer vigil at the former edifice, followed by a motorcade to our new facility. We commenced with a ribbon cutting ceremony along with a praise and worship program.
Upon direction of the Holy Spirit to promote Jesus to the entire world, Pastor Gibson and the Rising Sun Family voted to modify the name to Rising Sun Christian Church. To God be the glory for all that he has rendered to our family.
After giving John Gibson the desires of his heart and then some, the Lord began a great work in him (John 9:4) to become a blessing to others.

Christian Training Degree from the United Baptist Theology Seminary.
was proudly asked to become the new Pastor. Reverend Gibson and the Rising Sun family prayed and petitioned God, for him to
become the new Pastor of the Sun, which he has faithfully served for the past thirty-four years. Under the guidance of the Holy
Spirit and his leadership many souls have accepted Christ as their personal saviour, in addition to the church purchasing land and
building a new edifice.
He also received the the Distinguish Service Award in 2001. After the passing of his beloved Victory Jackson, who went home to
be with the Lord, in 2001. God again, abundantly smiled on Pastor Gibson and blessed him with another helpmeet. He was united
in Holy Matromeny in 2006 to Sis. Gigi M Hamilton. Pastor Gibson has been inducted into the Metropolitan Who’s Who.
Gigi M. Gibson began her odyssey as an inspirational speaker and teacher in childhood. At an early age she was often called upon to lead BTU, Bible Study, and Sunday School Classes. Her spiritual upbringing kept her grounded and focused on the word of God, which has resulted in her being on fire and spiritually enthusiastic for the Lord.
As a young woman Lady Gigi remained in the hands of the Lord. She matriculated through the Peoria Public Schools where she was a standout track star at Manual High School; which earned her a scholarship to Western, Illinois University. In addition, Lady Gigi has earned numerous certificates and awards. She earned her Associate in Arts & Science. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Science Degree.
Lady Gigi is no stranger to working with underprivileged youth. Lady Gigi has more than thirty years of experience in motivating, empowering, and inspiring our youth. She was employed by District 150 Schools for over a decade. Lady Gigi is active with youth and young adults while inspiring them with Godly principles. These principles include but are not limited to respect, integrity, collaboration, communication, excellence, and accountability.
Lady Gigi is the lovely bride of Pastor John L. Gibson.
